RITA DOVE

Rita Dove. Akron, Ohio, 1952. Primera mujer afro-americana que recibió el galardón de Poeta Laureado de los Estados Unidos. En 1987 obtuvo el Premio Pulitzer por su libro de poemas Thomas and Beulah. Ha incursionado en el cuento y la novela. Entre otras distinciones, obtuvo las becas del National Endowment for the Arts y la Guggenheim. En sus escritos describe vidas cotidianas de la clase media afro-estadounidense con un realismo simple y conmovedor.

Libros de poesía: On the Bus with Rosa Parks (1999); Mother Love (1995); Lady Freedom Among Us (1994); Selected Poems (1993); Grace Notes (1989); Thomas and Beulah (1986); Museum (1983); The Yellow House on the Corner (1980). Tambiés ha publicado el libro de relatos cortos Fifth Sunday (1985), la novela Through the Ivory Gate (1992) y el drama en verso The Darker Face of the Earth (1994).
